|Nisshin Flour Milling Inc., of the Nisshin Flour Milling Group, Japan's largest flour milling company, will start importing and selling high-fiber wheat developed by Arista Cereal Technology of Australia, a company which develops and commercializes new wheat varieties. It is wheat that contains about 5 to 10 times more dietary fiber than general wheat. After more than 20 years of research and development, it was bred by natural mating, and said to contain a large amount of indigestible starch.
Indigestible starch is a general term for starch and starch decomposition products that are not digested and absorbed in the human small intestines, and is said to be a type of dietary fiber. When this high-fiber wheat is made into wheat flour, it contains 5 to 10 times more resistant starch than general wheat flour.
Nisshin Flour Milling will exclusively import and sell the high dietary fiber wheat from Arista Cereal Technology, and will promote research and development of health-friendly products using this wheat.
Nisshin Flour Milling said, "The recommended intake of dietary fiber is 21 grams or more for men, and 18 grams or more for women per day, but there is also a survey result that shows only 15 to 20 grams of dietary fiber is actually be ingested. By replacing the common wheat currently used in various foods with this high fiber wheat, the lack of fiber will surely be resolved."
